What we are currently experiencing in the western world is the complete disappearing of the middle class. The gap between rich and poor is widening to an extent that remind us of ancient times and what we thought could have been a democratic and decentralized revolution (the internet) is probably the greatest oligopoly we've ever seen.
Why i say (write) so ?
Because Networking, structured like it is, is not the wonder everyone was expecting. The developed world is folding into austerity and the middle class is declining, there is a decline in social mobility too, and we are seeing an intense and unprecedented phenomenon of wealth concentration. And when we look deeply into this intense wealth concentration, whether from financial or tech companies, we always find at the top of the network a giant computer associated with that scheme.
Something is wrong in the system and it has to do with the fact that, even if men are created equal, computers are not (this is an interesting philisophical point that would require further analysis). The idea that an open network would have give benefits to everyone, because of the access to free services, is proving incorrect. Whoever has the biggest computer, naturally even if they don't intent to do anything improper, will use that superior ability to gain this incredible advantage and to calculate all the risks and costs associated with other people. All this power and wealth sorrounding this big computers is not an architecture we can live with.
The way the internet is creating big success is by pretending that the people who actually build and feed that success everyday don't exist, we just concentrate the benefits around who has the biggest central computer. An example could be facebook, google or instagram where you have 13 people worth billions of dollars and billions of people who upload and feed the system everyday (this is the middle class that is disappearing) worth nothing. But is the amount of data daily added by this people that makes the network valuable. And they don't get paid.
Informal benefits, like exposure and free services doesn't help the middle class going through life. The society needs technological revolutions that can help formally and substantially the workers of the network. Another example could be the google translation service where million of user, by using this service, are improving and teaching the software who simply collect and storage all the precedent translations and comes up with the best guess once a new one is requested.
The world needs to recalibrate the way we are doing network. What we think as "open" and "working" is not "open" and is not "working".

Quello che stiamo sperimentando oggi nel mondo è la scomparsa della classe media. Il divario tra ricchi e poveri aumenta fino a farci ricordare di tempi antichi e quella che abbiamo creduto essere una rivoluzione democratica e decentralizzata (Internet) è probabilmente il più grande oligopolio mai visto.
Perchè dico questo ?
Perchè il Networking, strutturato come ora, non è la grande meraviglia che tutti ci aspettavamo. Il mondo è caduto nell'austerità e la classe media è in continuo declino, la mobilità sociale è in continuo declino e stiamo vivendo un intenso fenomeno, senza precedenti, di concentrazione di ricchezza. Se guardiamo attentamente ed in profondità a queste concentrazioni di ricchezza, provenienti sia da istituzioni finanziarie che da compagnie tecnologiche, troviamo sempre in cima alla piramide o al network, un computer gigante associato a questi schemi. Qualcosa è sbagliato nel sistema ed ha a che vedere con il fatto che, anche se gli uomini sono stati creati uguali, i computers no (questo è un'interessante punto filosofico che richiederebbe un'ulteriore analisi).
L'idea che il network avrebbe portato benefici per tutti grazie all'accesso di servizi gratuiti si sta rivelando sbagliata. Chiunque possieda i computer più grandi e potenti, in maniera naturale anche se non intende fare niente di male, userà questa superiore abilità per calcolare più velocemente ed accuratamente tutti i costi e i rischi relativi alle altre persone. Tutta questa ricchezza e potere che circonda questi grandi computer non è un'architettura con la quale possiamo vivere per molto.
Il modo in cui internet crea successo è fingendo che le persone che costruiscono e alimentano quel successo ogni giorno non esistano. Concentriamo semplicemente tutti i benefici intorno a chi possiede i computer centrali più grandi. Un esempio può essere rappresentato da facebook, google o instagram dove 13 persone valgono miliardi di dollari e miliardi di persone che ogni giorno aggiungono dati al network aumentandone il valore (la classe media che sta sparendo) non valgono niente. Ma è proprio questa quantità di dati, che lavoratori non retribuiti aggiungono ogni giorno al network, a creare valore.
Benefici informali come la visibilità o il servizio gratuito non aiutano la classe media ad affrontare la vita. La società ha bisogno di rivoluzioni tecnologiche che aiutino sostanzialmente e formalmente i lavoratori del network. Un altro esempio può essere il servizio di traduzione di google dove milioni di utenti, utilizzando questo servizio, migliorano ed insegnano al software che semplicemente colleziona e immagazzina traduzioni per poi presentare il migliore risultato alla seguente richiesta.
Il mondo ha bisogo di ricalibrare il modo di fare "Network". Quello che crediamo "aperto" e "funzionante" non è "aperto" e non sta "funzionando"
